A 1976 graduate of Harvard University, Mr. Chicos is a nationally renowned business leader. Mr. Chicos is the former Founder, Chairman and CEO of The Chickering Group, the nation’s leading provider of student health insurance, which was acquired by Aetna Life Insurance Company in 2003. He is the Chairman of The Christie Foundation, a charitable corporation established by Mr. Chicos focusing on education. In addition, he is a Founding Director of The Gorbachev Foundation of North America, which was founded in 1997 by several Northeastern University Trustees and by Mikhail Gorbachev for promoting democracy and economic development around the world. Mr. Chicos has long-standing relationships with universities and hospitals and community organizations. He is a Trustee Emeritus of Boston University, member of the External Executive Board of the Institute for Global Leadership at Tufts University, Trustee Emeritus of Mount Auburn Hospital, a member of the Board for the Greater Boston YMCA, a Global Ambassador for the Susan G. Komen Foundation, and a member of The Kraft Center National Leadership Council. Over the past 25 years, Mr. Chicos has played an active role on other prominent boards in finance, academia and health care, including Century Bank & Trust, Trustee of Newbury College, Trustee of the Arthritis Foundation Massachusetts Chapter, as well as serving on the Advisory Boards for both Boston University Medical School and NYU School of Nursing.
Erta is an experienced executive with over 10 years of experience in leading successful teams of marketing and sales professionals. Erta was Senior Account Representative at The Chickering Group with primary responsibility for working with large and complex institutions in the development of effective student health insurance programs. Before joining Christie Student Health, Erta was the Regional Development Officer for the Susan G. Komen Foundation in Washington, D.C. where she gained significant experience in government relations and health care. She holds a BA with Honors from Mount Holyoke College.
Maryellen has over 20 years of experience in Student Health focusing on all aspects of financial and legal/compliance issues. Before joining Christie, she most recently served as the CFO of Aetna Student Health and Vice President of Finance at The Chickering Group. Maryellen holds a BS with Honors from Boston College and a Juris Doctor with Honors from Suffolk University Law School. She is also a Certified Public Accountant and is a member in good standing of the Massachusetts Bar.
Don has close to 25 years of experience in the healthcare industry. Before joining Christie Student Health, he held a number of senior positions at The Chickering Group and Aetna Student Health, most recently as Vice President of Operations with overall responsibility for claims processes and customer experience. He also oversaw enrollment procedures and navigated direct system interfaces required to provide enrollment information to carriers, network providers and ancillary product vendors. Don holds a BS from Boston College.
Ken is the former co-owner and COO of The Chickering Group. Ken focused on the evaluation and management of Chickering’s operational and financial controls. He had oversight of actuarial, claims administration and customer service, as well as sales and client services support. Prior to that, Ken owned and managed independent insurance agencies in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Ken has served on the Board of Trustees at the Tower School since 2009. Ken holds a BA from University of Vermont and an MBA from Columbia University.
Lawrence Bacow is a former President of Tufts University and former Chancellor of MIT, and, as of May 2011, serves as a member of the Harvard Corporation, the fiduciary body of Harvard University. A lawyer and economist, his scholarly interests lie at the intersection of environmental studies, law, economics, and policy. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and has served in a range of government advisory positions. He has had many trusteeship roles, including chairing the Talloires Network, which aims to strengthen the civic roles of higher education institutions worldwide. Dr. Bacow previously served on the Board of Directors of the American Council on Education, Tufts Medical Center, Wheaton College, and the Board of Overseers of Hebrew College. Bacow received his S.B. in economics from MIT, his J.D. from Harvard Law School and his M.P.P. and Ph.D. from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government.
Terry Fulmer, PhD, RN, FAAN, is the President of the John A Hartford Foundation in New York City, a foundation dedicated to the health of older adults since 1929. She previously served as Distinguished Professor & Dean of the Bouvé College of Health Sciences & Professor of Public Policy and Urban Affairs in the College of Social Sciences and Humanities at Northeastern University, and prior as the Erline Perkins McGriff Professor of Nursing and founding Dean of the New York University College of Nursing. She received her bachelor’s degree from Skidmore College, her master’s and doctoral degrees from Boston College and her Geriatric Nurse Practitioner Post-Master’s Certificate from New York University. She is an elected member of the National Academy of Medicine (formerly the Institute of Medicine).
Ms. Zane is a former president and CEO of Tufts Medical Center. Prior to joining Tufts, she was network president for Partners Healthcare System Inc. and a former CEO of Quincy Hospital. Ms. Zane is a former Chair of the board of the Massachusetts Hospital Association, has been a member of the Board of Governors of the Clinical Center at the National Institutes of Health, and is a member of the Health Policy and Management Executive Council at the Harvard School of Public Health. She was given the Lifetime Achievement Awards from both the Boston Business Journal and the American College of Healthcare Executives of Massachusetts and was named one of the 10 most powerful women in healthcare by HealthExecNews.com. Currently, Ms. Zane is a director at Paraxel, a global bio/pharmaceutical service; Haemonetics Corporation, a blood company; Press Ganey, the pre-eminent provider of data to hospitals and physicians concerning patient experience in multiple clinical settings; and at Brooks Automation, a semiconductor equipment manufacturer. Ms. Zane received her bachelor’s degree from George Washington University, and a master’s from the Catholic University of America.
